WWE: Highlights from Gunther v Sheamus prove it was one of the best matches ever

Gunther v Sheamus was one of WWE's best-ever matches

At WWE Clash at the Castle on September 3, Gunther and Sheamus had one of the best matches in the company’s history.

The match, which was for Gunther’s Intercontinental Championship, was one of the most hard-hitting and brutal clashes that WWE fans have ever seen.

The reaction from fans was incredibly positive too, with many of those who watched the show saying that it was the best match of the night.

Why was Gunther v Sheamus so good?

However, many fans feel as if simply calling Gunther v Sheamus the ‘match of the night’ isn’t high enough praise considering what the two men produced.

Some have said that the match was one of the best in WWE history, with Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer even awarding it five stars in his latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The match becomes only the fifth on WWE’s main roster that Meltzer has ever rated five stars, with the fourth actually being the Hell in a Cell match between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins from June of this year.

Gunther v Sheamus highlights package

As we’ve noted, the match was one of the best WWE fans have ever seen, and fans are still talking about it, even eight days later.

In fact, a highlight package from the hard-hitting affair has started to circulate online, showing exactly why it’s been regarded so highly by fans and commentators alike.

Gunther and Sheamus are both being booked incredibly well right now, with many fans even regarding the Europeans as two of their favourites on the WWE roster at the moment.

The reaction to Gunther and Sheamus’ incredible match

Fans have responded to the incredible highlight package above, giving their thoughts on the match between the two SmackDown stars.

As has been the sentiment for much of the last eight days, fans cannot speak highly enough of the work that Sheamus and Gunther produced in Cardiff.

Gunther and Sheamus shared the ring again on SmackDown this week, as the Brawling Brutes and Imperium collided in what was a fantastic six-man tag team match.

Gunther and Sheamus are likely to go their separate ways now, but considering how well the feud went down, don’t be too surprised to see WWE look to revisit it before too long.
