Chelsea star Christian Pulisic could get more game time under new manager Graham Potter as an attacking wing-back, believes journalist Simon Phillips.

The 23-year-old winger failed to nail down a spot in the Blues' starting XI while Thomas Tuchel was in charge, but Phillips thinks it could be a different story under Potter.

What is the latest news involving Pulisic?

Pulisic often found himself on the bench during Tuchel's reign at Stamford Bridge. This season, he was named in the German's first XI just once before his dismissal.

With Tuchel no longer at the club, though, USA manager Gregg Berhalter is hoping Pulisic will be able to pick up more minutes.

"I’m not happy a guy lost his job," he said when discussing the 49-year-old's sacking (via 90min).

"But if this means more opportunity for Christian, then it’s positive because he’s a guy that’s proven that he can perform at that level. We’ll just have to wait and see."

What has Phillips said about Pulisic and Potter?

While Phillips can see the likes of Jorginho and Hakim Ziyech struggling under Potter, the journalist thinks Pulisic is one player who could thrive following this managerial change.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: "Players like Jorginho are going to struggle. I think Ziyech is going to struggle getting in that team. I don't really see where he fits.

"Pulisic is one to watch, I think, because he might be used as one of those attacking wing-backs. I think he might get some more game time if that is what Potter does."

Why did Tuchel overlook Pulisic at times?

In Tuchel's defence, Pulisic was injured a lot during his spell as Chelsea manager. Simply put, the £150,000-a-week American was not available for every match, so it was hard to give him a run and the opportunity to try and find rhythm and form.

Also, when Pulisic was given opportunities, he did not always deliver. In fact, Tuchel was very critical of one of his displays last season, where he missed such an easy chance against Leicester City.

"Yeah, it is,” the former Blues boss was quoted as saying by The Guardian when asked if Pulisic's finishing is a concern following that game.

"He is not the player who produced in the last three seasons 30 goals. We will push him to the limit."

With Tuchel gone, though, it is a fresh start for Pulisic and the rest of his team-mates, who now have no more excuses.
