Tottenham winger Lucas Moura loves the club and is determined to win a trophy with them, claims The Sun's Tom Barclay.

The Brazilian was linked with a move away from Hotspur Way at the end of the summer transfer window, but the journalist has told GIVEMESPORT that he never pushed for a move.

Who wanted Lucas?

A couple of Premier League clubs were thought to have been interested in Lucas ahead of the transfer deadline.

According to The Telegraph, Aston Villa considered making a late move for the 30-year-old, though nothing happened in the end.

Elsewhere, Football Insider reported that Newcastle United were also eyeing Lucas at that late stage of the window.

The Brazil international, who joined Tottenham from Paris Saint-Germain for £25m back in 2018, would have probably got more game time at either Villa Park or St James' Park. Last season, he made just 11 league starts under Antonio Conte. Despite that, it does not look like he was desperate to leave his current club.

What has Barclay said about Lucas and Tottenham?

Barclay says Lucas loves Spurs and is eager to finally win some silverware with his side.

Speaking to GMS, The Sun journalist said: "I mean, Moura's an interesting one. I think he's got a year or two left, but I think he might have an option on his contract. He loves Tottenham.

"We spoke to him in pre-season and he's desperate to win that trophy like a lot of those Spurs players are who've been there for a long time. He's a great character around the squad. I don't think he's one Conte would have been loath to lose, and I don't think he was pushing for a move either."

Can Lucas help Tottenham to win a trophy this season?

It would be a surprise if Tottenham were able to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title.

They were incredible last term, picking up 93 points as they went on to finish in first place, and now look even stronger following the addition of Erling Haaland, who has already registered 10 goals in the top flight.

With Conte in charge, though, and the squad Spurs possess, there is no reason why they cannot win the FA Cup, League Cup or Europa League should they drop down to there from the Champions League.

Given that the Italian has Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison to call upon, you would not expect Lucas to have a huge role at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season. But it is a long campaign, so he should get some game time and, from his perspective, hopefully help his team to win one of the aforementioned competitions.
