Chelsea star Conor Gallagher may profit from Thomas Tuchel's Stamford Bridge sacking as he 'really could suit' successor Graham Potter, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

Tuchel was axed last week, following a poor run of form at the start of the season, and the Blues' hierarchy quickly appointed Potter after a successful reign at Brighton & Hove Albion.

What's the latest news involving Gallagher?

Gallagher has made five appearances since returning to Chelsea after a season-long loan with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.

However, his outings have not passed without incident as he was sent off inside the opening half an hour of Chelsea’s win over Leicester City last month, leading to then-chief Tuchel admitting the central midfielder was ‘responsible’ for a ‘huge mistake’.

Eye-opening footage also emerged of Tuchel being left frustrated by Gallagher after he failed to make a forward pass during the first half of Chelsea's win over West Ham United.

It is understood that Crystal Palace were keen to seal the 22-year-old's return to Selhurst Park on a permanent basis and lodged a £27million bid days before the summer transfer window's deadline, but their proposal did not meet Chelsea’s expectations.

The Blues reportedly valued Gallagher at £40million amid additional interest from Newcastle United, while West Ham also plotted a late loan move which failed to come off.

What has Tom Barclay said about Gallagher?

Barclay has emphasised that it is down to Gallagher to impress Potter following the decision to make an early season managerial change.

However, the journalist feels the four-cap England international will fit seamlessly into the new head coach's plans at Stamford Bridge.

Barclay told GIVEMESPORT: "He has played, even with that red card. There has obviously been a change of manager now and Graham Potter has come in.

"It's up to him to win Potter over, as it'll be for all of the Chelsea players. But, when you actually look at Gallagher's attributes, I think he really could suit Graham Potter."

Why did Chelsea sack Tuchel?

Chelsea have been in underwhelming form for a prolonged period of time, with Tuchel leading the west Londoners to just seven Premier League victories since March.

The German was shown the door less than 24 hours after he lambasted his squad for showing no hunger or determination in their 1-0 Champions League group stage defeat at Dinamo Zagreb.

It is understood that Tuchel’s relationship with some Blues stars had deteriorated towards the end of his reign, which also played a role in the hierarchy's decision to oust him.
