Arsenal could reignite their interest in Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz and Leicester City talisman Youri Tielemans in January as there are 'already signs' that the Emirates Stadium squad needs reinforcements, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Gunners suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United in their last Premier League outing, which ended their 100 per cent winning start to the campaign.

What's the latest news involving Luiz and Tielemans?

Although Arsenal were not afraid to splash the cash during the summer transfer window, as they forked out close to £120million on fresh faces, Luiz and Tielemans were not among those to head through the door.

Aston Villa rejected three deadline day bids from the north Londoners, with the final proposal for Luiz being worth £25million.

The Midlands club decided to retain the defensive midfielder's services despite the Brazilian already being into the final 12 months of his £52,000-per-week contract.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Arsenal have been holding internal discussions over Tielemans since January, but they failed to lodge a formal bid during the recently closed transfer window.

Like Luiz, the Belgian has an uncertain future with his current employers as his £120,000-per-week Leicester deal will expire next summer.

What has Dean Jones said about the duo?

Jones has refused to rule out the possibility of Arsenal looking to hold negotiations over Luiz and Tielemans when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year.

The journalist feels Gunners boss Mikel Arteta does not have enough options in the middle of the park and that has become clear during the early stages of the season.

When asked whether a January move for Luiz or Tielemans could be on the cards, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I think Arsenal will have to look into the market again.

"I think we're already seeing signs that this squad isn't going to be deep enough, so it will be really interesting once we get to that point and get through the World Cup."

Would Luiz or Tielemans be the better signing?

While statistics show that Tielemans averaged more goals, assists and blocks than Luiz per 90 minutes last season, the Aston Villa man boasted a better pass completion ratio and made more interceptions.

Tielemans has been described by Leicester chief Brendan Rodgers as ‘one of Europe’s top midfielders’, emphasising that he boasts an abundance of talent and would be an asset to Arsenal if they succeeded in getting a deal over the line.

Meanwhile, Luiz could become more attainable in January as he reportedly wanted to seal his exit from Aston Villa on deadline day, so there is a chance that he would push for a move if the Gunners returned to the negotiating table.
