Manchester United 'will want to be in the race' to sign 'generational talent' Jude Bellingham as Erik ten Hag continues his Old Trafford revamp in the coming months, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Ten Hag took over as the Red Devils' boss during the summer and was allowed to spend more than £200million before the transfer window slammed shut earlier this month, but Borussia Dortmund star Bellingham was not among the fresh faces to head to the red half of Manchester.

What's the latest news involving Bellingham?

According to The Athletic, Manchester United are among a number of clubs who are keen to acquire Bellingham in 2023.

The report suggests Liverpool, Real Madrid and Chelsea are also in the race for the 15-cap England international's signature, but it could take a bid of up to £103million to seal the deal.

Dortmund were in a strong negotiating position during the recently closed transfer window as Bellingham still has three years remaining on his £49,000-per-week contract.

But it seems a move away from the Bundesliga could be on the cards as Liverpool are understood to be making strong progress in their pursuit and working to find an agreement ahead of next summer.

Manchester United's arch-rivals were assessing short-term midfield options as deadline day approached earlier this month, but Bellingham is reportedly expected to head to Anfield at the end of the season.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Bellingham?

While Liverpool appear to be in pole position to sign Bellingham, O'Rourke understands that Manchester United will make sure they provide stiff competition for his signature.

The journalist believes the central midfielder will be on the radar of Europe's biggest clubs as the reopening of the transfer window approaches.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "Bellingham is a generational talent who has done wonders over at Dortmund at such a young age. I just think he's going to get better and better as well.

"He's going to be a top player and he already is a top player, but I think it's pretty inevitable that all the big clubs in Europe will come calling for Jude Bellingham, whether it's in the next six months or the next 12 months. I'm sure Manchester United will want to be in that race as well."

Would Bellingham be a good signing for Manchester United?

Although Bellingham does not boast Premier League experience, he has made close to 100 appearances for German giants Dortmund and shown that he is capable of being a threat in the final third of the pitch.

The 19-year-old has already found the back of the net twice since the new season got underway and would bring a winning mentality to Manchester United if they were to succeed in negotiations further down the line as he has clinched the DFB-Pokal with his current employers.

Bellingham has been described as a ‘fantastic footballer’ who is ‘already a leader’ by Dortmund team-mate Mats Hummels, so it is clear that he would be a shrewd acquisition by the Red Devils.
