Roman Reigns' upcoming WWE plans may come as a surprise to some people, a new report has claimed.

At Clash at the Castle on September 3, Roman Reigns defeated Drew McIntyre to retain his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

Following on from that, many fans expected Roman to enter a mouth-watering feud with another top WWE Superstar, with names such as Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens being thrown about.

What does WWE have planned for Roman Reigns?

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has revealed some of the rather interesting new plans that WWE has in store for 'The Tribal Chief', as covered by WrestleTalk.

Meltzer explained that Roman will be missing Extreme Rules on October 8, before returning for a Undisputed WWE Universal title defence in Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel on November 5.

He also explains that the match won't be against either Seth Rollins or Kevin Owens, both of which WWE has teased over the last few weeks, suggesting that his opponent could be a rather surprising one.

Reigns is not on Extreme Rules on 10/8 in Philadelphia, and his next major match is on the Saudi Arabia show. I was told it’s not Seth Rollins or Kevin Owens, even though both have teased it and based on build one would expect those two matches at some point.

However, as Meltzer notes above, matches between Reigns and Owens/Rollins will likely take place over the coming months, setting up an exciting future for Roman's top feuds in WWE.

Who will Roman Reigns' face at Crown Jewel?

As for who Roman is set to face at Crown Jewel in November, Meltzer didn't actually reveal The Tribal Chief's planned opponent.

All we know is that it won't be Rollins or Owens, with names such as Drew McIntyre and Karrion Kross being speculated.

McIntyre faced Reigns at Clash at the Castle, as we've noted previously, but the pair continued their feud on SmackDown last week.

However, the show ended with Karrion Kross attacking Drew, so fans have speculated that Kross could beat the former WWE Champion at Extreme Rules, before going on to face Roman at Crown Jewel.

Another name that fans have speculated could face Reigns at Crown Jewel is Sami Zayn, but with the show taking place in Saudi Arabia, and Sami not participating in those shows, it seems highly unlikely.

You can watch WWE Extreme Rules on October 8 and Crown Jewel on October 5 live in the US on Peacock and in all other international markets on the WWE Network.
