Dak Prescott: Dallas Cowboys QB abused by his own fans leaving the field injured

Dak Prescott hit by trash

Dak Prescott was forced to face the ire of some furious Dallas Cowboys fans during their Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This season seemed like it was going to be one that saw the Dallas Cowboys take another big step forward and put themselves in the category of being prime contenders in the NFC to challenge for Super Bowl honours once again.

The past two seasons have seen the Cowboys under the wing of head coach Mike McCarthy, who took them from 6-10 in his first season in charge, a season that was severely impacted by the pandemic and an injury to quarterback Dak Prescott, to going 12-5 last season and the #3 seed in the NFC playoffs.

But whilst they were making progress last season, that is unraveling pretty quickly before the 2022 season has even had a chance to get going.

Dak loses more of his attack

There was a lot of changes in the Dallas Cowboys locker room this offseason, especially as it pertained to the wide receiver group, with the team adding former Pittsburgh Steeler James Washington to compensate for losing Amari Cooper in a trade with the Cleveland Brown, however that plan went south when Washington suffered a foot injury in the preseason.

He also has to deal with the comeback of Micahel Gallup, a very capable receiver, but who is recovering from a torn ACL injury that he suffered late last season, and who was still missing when the Dallas Cowboys took the field last night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In what year did Jerry Jones take over the Dallas Cowboys?

And then things got even worse for them as Prescott suffered an injury to his thumb that will require surgery and according to reports could see him be out for 6-8 weeks.

But having suffered a physical injury during the game, he had to suffer an emotional hit as well as he left the field.

Dak Prescott under fire

As he left the field to get his injury checked out during the 4th quarter, he had to head past a number of Cowboys fans who are clearly upset with how things look for them right now, losing their first game of the season and looking at a number of weeks with a less than complete offense, they took it out on Prescott as he made his way down the tunnel.

Now whether they were angry at Prescott’s performance specifically on the night that saw him go 14/29 (less than 50% passes completed), have 134 yards and throw 1 interception as the Cowboys put up just three points, or they just wanted to take their anger out on the first player that came by, it’s hard to tell.

But it certainly isn’t a good look for the Cowboys or Prescott to be subjected to that in Week 1.
