What is the latest news involving Mount?

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are hoping to tie Mount, who has been tipped to captain the club one day by John Terry, down to a new contract.

The outlet states that provisional discussions have already taken place between the 23-year-old and Blues co-owner Todd Boehly, so things are looking good for the Premier League outfit.

The above comes after Reece James signed a new long-term deal at Stamford Bridge earlier this month in a boost to the club.

Currently, Mount is thought to be earning £88,000 a week, with his current contract set to expire in 2024.

What has Jones said about Potter and Mount?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Potter is a fan of Mount, while the journalist can also see the England international putting pen to paper on a fresh deal.

Speaking to GMS, he said: "Graham Potter, I'm told, is a big admirer of his. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Mason Mount was set to get a new contract."

Will Mount be a key player for Potter at Chelsea?

Based on Jones' words, it looks like he will be. As well as that, Mount has already proven to be one of Chelsea's best players since he broke into their first team.

Last season, the England international scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in 32 Premier League appearances under former manager Thomas Tuchel.

Speaking about Mount the campaign prior, Tuchel said (via MailOnline): "He has the full package, mentally, in terms of talent and physically. And the most important part is his character, he has his feet on the ground and he's a nice guy.

"He comes to Cobham every day to learn something new and have new experiences. He is the guy who can recover very fast, he's a very physical player and is fully adapted to Premier League football. He has big self confidence in a very, very positive way. It's a pleasure to have him, be at his side and guide him and support him."

Mount has made a very slow start to this season, failing to come up with a single goal contribution so far. But looking at all of the above, it is clear to see that he is still a quality player and one Potter is surely looking forward to working with.
