World number nine Simona Halep has confirmed she will be out of action for "a few weeks" after undergoing surgery on her nose. The Romanian star had been struggling with her breathing during recent months, which she explained had worsened during her time in the USA over the summer. She took to social media to update her fans on her current status, alongside a photo of her in hospital post-operation."As some might already know, I have been struggling for a while with nose problems and it got worse during the summer, especially in Washington," Halep posted on Twitter and Instagram."This problem made it hard to breathe and even worse during the night as I was going through complete blocked nose."

Halep said the "only way to solve the problem" was to undergo an operation on her nose, which also included a "plastic surgery intervention."

The former world number one has confirmed the surgery was a success and she is now resting up in order to aid her return to tennis. She also took the time to thank the doctor and anesthesiologist who helped her during the process.

Halep has promised her fans she will see them soon and they will certainly be counting down the days to watch her in action once again.

How has Halep's form been?

During the Citi Open in Washington last month, Halep was forced to withdraw from the tournament in the second round.

At the time, the reason for her retirement was unknown, but it is clear now that her breathing issues had seriously hampered her ability to play.

Despite withdrawing, the world number nine immediately bounced back and went on to win the Canadian Open the following week.

Halep beat the likes of Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff to win her second title of 2022 and the 24th of her career overall.

The 30-year-old had previously won the Melbourne Summer Set event back in January in preparation for the Australian Open.

However, Halep was unable to progress past the round of 16, but enjoyed reaching the semi-final of Wimbledon five months later.

She continues to push for her third Grand Slam title, having previously won the 2018 French Open and her first title at the All England Club the following year.

Since struggling with her breathing issues, Halep’s form has been hit and miss.

Her US Open first round defeat at the hands of qualifier Daria Sniguer will have undoubtedly been disappointing, but the Romanian can now look ahead to competing as normal following her surgery.
