Man Utd: 'Genuine' interest in £200k-a-week star at Old Trafford

Manchester United have received a ‘genuine line of enquiry’ from Paris Saint-Germain over Marcus Rashford and the Old Trafford hierarchy are ‘having to take it seriously’, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Red Devils spent more than £200million on bolstering the squad Erik ten Hag inherited upon his arrival in the summer, but it appears there could be a high-profile departure during the winter window.

What’s the latest news involving Rashford?

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, PSG have been long-term admirers of Rashford and held an interest throughout the summer transfer window.

However, the respected Italian journalist suggests the reigning Ligue 1 champions failed to lodge an official offer for the 46-cap England international ahead of the deadline earlier this month.

PSG have not been the only side courting Rashford as discussions were reportedly held between his representatives and Tottenham Hotspur during the close season, but a move to north London failed to materialise.

It is understood that Manchester United are keen to hold onto their academy graduate and tie him down to a new five-year contract to erase any doubts over his future.

Rashford’s £200,000-per-week deal is due to expire in the summer, but there is an option to extend the agreement by a further 12 months.

What has Dean Jones said about Rashford?

Jones understands that PSG are keen to acquire Rashford and their interest is not going away despite the closure of the transfer window earlier this month.

The journalist believes that Manchester United are not particularly fearful of seeing the winger move onto pastures new.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “The PSG rumour keeps cropping up and it is a genuine line of enquiry.

“They’re having to take it seriously and make sure that, if anything was to come along, the player goes for top dollar.

“I don’t think they’re especially worried about Rashford leaving. Is he playing at the level that is worth any of this – the new contract or a transfer to PSG? Probably not.”

Would Rashford’s departure come as a blow?

Rashford has made an impressive start to the new campaign, scoring three goals and registering a further two assists in six appearances.

He has rediscovered his best form under ten Hag, having only found the back of the net five times in the entirety of last season.

Rashford’s prowess in the final third of the pitch has allowed Manchester United to move to within three points of Premier League table-toppers Arsenal.

But, with the likes of Antony, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo capable of filling in for Rashford, Manchester United should seriously consider their options if a big-money bid comes in for the 24-year-old when the transfer window reopens in January.
