New Chelsea manager Graham Potter has had ‘a lot of one-to-one conversations’ with unhappy players during his first days in charge, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Several stars were linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge over the summer after becoming frustrated with their game time under previous boss Thomas Tuchel.

What is the latest news involving Chelsea?

Tuchel was surprisingly dismissed just seven games into the new season by Chelsea owner Todd Boehly despite overseeing a busy transfer window where multiple players came and went.

The west London outfit spent around £250 million on new acquisitions, while the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger departed for pastures new.

And other fringe players such as Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Trevor Chalobah were also reportedly eager to depart Chelsea in search of regular first-team opportunities.

However, Potter has already stated that he will ‘try to build relationships’ with his players, indicating that his appointment could be a fresh start for many at the club.

“I try to find some common ground, try to build relationships, to try to communicate effectively on a daily basis and build respect, trust and honesty, so my starting point would always be the person first,” he said.

What has Jones said about Potter?

Jones has informed GiveMeSport that Potter wants to see how things play out in the ‘early weeks’ of his Chelsea reign before making ‘any rash decisions’ over potential signings.

He said: “I know he's had a lot of one-to-one conversations to understand the disappointments of the players that have been left out of the team and he’s spoken about players that he knows will have a key role.

“I think he just wants to see how things go in the early weeks before making any rash decisions on what players will need to come in.”

Where might Potter want to strengthen?

Last season, Chelsea finished third in the Premier League and had the third-best defensive record while also only scoring fewer goals than Manchester City and Liverpool.

However, the Blues’ goal tally of 76 was dwarfed by that of City and Liverpool, who found the back of the net on 99 and 94 occasions in the top-flight respectively.

Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Lukaku were Chelsea’s joint-top scorers in all competitions with an underwhelming tally of 13 strikes, indicating improvements upfront might be what Potter prioritises.

Only time will tell if that is the case, though, and Potter will surely be hoping he is afforded the time needed to change Chelsea’s fortunes.
