Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys could be set for some positive news when it comes to the quarterback’s health following his injury on Sunday.

The Dallas Cowboys start to the NFL season couldn’t possibly have gone any worse for them if they tried on Sunday night as they took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Not only did they lose, but they lost at home. Not only did they lose at home, they did so without scoring a touchdown, the only team in the NFL that didn’t score a touchdown in the opening week of the season. They also don’t seem to have gotten over their penalty problems, as they committed 10 on opening night, double that of their opponents.

And to add insult to injury, franchise quarterback Dak Prescott suffered an injury to his thumb late in the 4th quarter, which put to bed any chance of them coming back and getting something out of the game, even if the scoreline and their overall play hadn’t done that already.

Dak Prescott, turning into a lost cause?

Prescott is certainly on the verge of being branded an ‘injury risk’ right now when it comes to his time in the NFL. Having been healthy and starting 64 games in the NFL after taking over from Tony Romo to start the 2016 season, he did miss 11 games in 2020 following an ankle injury.

And now with this injury set to see him miss some further time, which is perhaps why the Cowboys were only willing to give him $160m on a four-year deal, with $126m guaranteed when they signed him to a new contract last summer, especially when you put his contracts up against some of the others in the league who are in the $200m+ range.

However, it looks as if things might not be so bad for him and the Cowboys after all.

The initial diagnosis comes in

According to a report from ESPN reporter Tom Pelissero, it looks as if things are looking up for Prescott and the Cowboys as his surgery to repair his thumb appears to have been a success and he could be back in just about a month and a half:

This report seems to have been further backed up by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who has claimed that he believes that Prescott will be back at the early end of the timescale rather than the latter:

If the Cowboys are to have any success this season, then Prescott is going to be the man to help deliver that, so they had better hope for their sake that it is indeed earlier in the time frame.
