FIFA is returning for another year of the franchise, but some Icons will not be returning with it. Here we have all the information on which Icons have been removed in FIFA 23.
Icons have been a massively popular part of Ultimate Team since their initial introduction in FIFA 16. Icons are special players based on legendary footballers from years gone by. Icons have special traits and attributes and are usually massively overpowered in-game. Their cards are usually very rare and cost a small fortune on the FUT transfer market.
EA also like to add new names to the Icon list when each new FIFA releases. So far we know three new names, which you can check out below.
However, under some circumstances – EA also sometimes need to remove Icons from the game, which is apparent for FIFA 23, with a grand total of eight Icons having been removed from the roster. Find them all out below.
FIFA 23: Which Icons have been removed
Here is the list of eight Icons that have been removed from FIFA 23.
- Iker Casillas (Spain)
- Cafu (Brazil)
- Diego Maradona (Argentina)
- Deco (Portugal)
- Ryan Giggs (Wales)
- Josep Guardiola (Spain)
- Marc Overmars (Netherlands)
- Filipo Inzaghi (Italy)
This was confirmed after EA released the names of the existing Icons that would be returning on their website. These eight names were unfortunately not featured, hence meaning they will not be making a return in FIFA 23.
Some of these names will be missed more than others. Diego Maradona will be a massive loss to the FIFA franchise. He was no doubt one of the best Icons in the game and will be missed in FIFA 23.
Cafu was also a brilliant choice at right-back, now we aren’t left with many options in this position Icon wise – so you never know EA could bring another iconic full-back in soon.
An Icon that won’t be missed in a FIFA sense is Filipo Inzaghi. He was usually very poor on the game and wasn’t used by many.
