Chelsea star Mason Mount might stay at Stamford Bridge for the rest of his career, believes transfer insider Dean Jones.

The attacking midfielder has been at the Blues since the age of six, and Jones is now tipping him to retire in west London.

After getting Reece James to sign a fresh contract, Chelsea are now trying to tie Mount down to a new long-term deal.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly and Mount have already held talks about the 23-year-old putting pen to paper on an extension.

His existing deal has less than two years remaining on it, hence the Blues' rush to get him to sign a new contract.

Mount is a key player for Chelsea, starting in all six of their Premier League games so far this season and featuring in 32 last term.

Jones would not be surprised to see Mount, who has a CIES Football Observatory value of £78m, retire at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "There are not many players you could imagine staying at one club for the duration of their career, but this is probably one of the ones that you feel actually might if you can continue to build in the way that you should do."

How big of a blow would losing Mount be for Chelsea?

Chelsea are yet to see the best of Mount this season, with the England international failing to score in any of his first six league games. Nevertheless, he is still one of their best players.

In the previous Premier League campaign, no one in the Blues' squad was able to produce more goal contributions than him after he came up with 21. Mount also averaged 1.8 key passes per game (via WhoScored). Again, none of his team-mates who played more than one match managed to top that.

What Mount does when his side are not in possession is worth mentioning, too. As per FBref, the England star has ranked in the 89th percentile for pressures and the 91st for tackles among attacking midfielders and wingers over the last year.

All in all, Mount is a very useful player to have, to say the least. If Graham Potter and Chelsea lost him, it would be a gigantic blow. Fortunately for them, though, it does look like a new contract could be signed before the end of 2022.
