Alpine will reportedly offer four drivers the chance to drive their 2021 car as they up their campaign to find a team-mate for Esteban Ocon for 2023.

The team has seen quite a few changes take place in terms of their driver roster in recent months, with both Fernando Alonso and Oscar Piastri off of the books at the end of the current year.

Alonso is joining Aston Martin for 2023 whilst Piastri is heading to McLaren, after rejecting the chance to be promoted to a race seat by Alpine as Fernando's replacement.

Four drivers to get Alpine test

With that in mind, Alpine need to find a new driver for 2023 and with the suggestion being that over 10 drivers are in the frame, four are reportedly being given the chance to show what they can do at the Hungaroring in an upcoming test before the Singapore Grand Prix at the start of October.

According to RacingNews365, Nyck de Vries, Jack Doohan, Colton Herta, and Mick Schumacher are the men set for the opportunity, though Alpine themselves have only gone as far as to say that a test will be held, and the date and personnel involved are as yet confirmed.

The likes of Pierre Gasly and Daniel Ricciardo have also been touted as potential new arrivals at Alpine for '23, though Ricciardo is already familiar with the team having been there when they were last branded Renault, and it is clear that the outfit has a large pool of names from which to pick a partner for Ocon.

In terms of the four drivers mentioned in the report, there are varying levels of likelihood of them making the switch:

Mick Schumacher has completed the most F1 Grands Prix of the quartet having driven for Haas this year and last, though his contract there is up at the end of the season and he may well leave. Ocon has also hinted driving with Mick would be his preferred option.

Nyck de Vries now has a race under his belt having stood in well for Alex Albon at Monza and scored points for Williams, a team that he could end up driving for in 2023 instead with Nicholas Latifi's future there uncertain.

Colton Herta is an emerging star in IndyCar and has been linked with a move to F1 for a while, with increasing speculation suggesting he may get a shot at AlphaTauri. Indeed, if he makes the switch to the grid for next year, Super Licence decision pending, the thinking is he will join the Faenza-based team rather than Alpine.

Jack Doohan, meanwhile, is perhaps the dark horse with him on Alpine's driver programme and showing good form in Formula 2 towards the end of the season, though it was Felipe Drugovich who was the pick of the bunch this year in the series.

As mentioned, the test will use the A521 car that Alpine ran in the 2021 campaign and it just remains to be seen who impresses.
