Johnny Gargano wrestled his first match in a WWE ring in nine months this week, getting in incredible shape to do so.

Gargano returned to WWE last month, after leaving the company in December 2021 following the expiration of his contract, going straight up to the main roster.

Fans speculated, almost as soon as Triple H was appointed as Head of Creative, that Johnny could be brought back and could benefit massively from the regime change within WWE.

Johnny Gargano's return to WWE

Johnny returned to WWE on the August 22 episode of Raw, becoming just another on the long-list of ex-WWE stars to return under Triple H.

Gargano immediately started a feud with Austin Theory, his former stablemate from their time in 'The Way', which is still going on as of right now.

Johnny wrestled his first match since December during this week's show, beating Chad Gable in a highly-competitive singles bout.

A singles encounter between Gargano and Theory is surely around the corner, and considering the insane talent that both men possess, their eventual bout has the potential to be a 'Match of the Year' contender.

Johnny Gargano's insane body transformation

In a rather emotional Instagram post, Johnny spoke about stepping back into the ring after over six months away from wrestling.

He also showed off his incredible body transformation, having focused less on his diet and workout during his time away from the ring, in which he and Candice LeRae had their first son.

Johnny got himself into ridiculously good shape ahead of his return, after admittedly putting on some weight during his hiatus away from the ring.

Gargano earned some well-deserved time away from the ring, which he ate a lot of Uber Eats and didn't stick to a string workout regime, but once he decided he was ready to return, he hit the gym and worked on getting lean again.

You can see Gargano's body transformation, which is incredibly impressive, in his Instagram post below.

What does WWE have planned for Johnny Gargano?

Beyond his feud with Austin Theory, which we've covered, the plans that WWE has for Gargano right now are somewhat unclear.

What is known is that he's a big favourite of Head of Creative Triple H, so don't be too surprised to see him in high-profile matches before too long.

A match that fans have speculated is likely to happen is a showdown between Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, especially given that the feud between the two is what earned Triple H his flowers as a top booker during his time with NXT.

You can watch Johnny Gargano every week on WWE Raw live in the US on the USA Network and in the UK on BT Sport.
