Simona Halep has posted another update on her recent health issues and has confirmed she will not be returning to the court this season.
The world number nine recently underwent an operation in order to help aid breathing issues she has been suffering with this year.
She informed her fans that the surgery was a success in her previous post but stressed the need for her to rest and recover before returning to physical activity.
What happened to Simona Halep?
Halep revealed she had been struggling with “nose problems” for a long period of time which “got worse during the summer.”
The issues worsened while she was competing at the Citi Open in Washington and she was forced to withdraw from the tournament in the second round.
“This problem made it hard to breathe and even worse during the night as I was going through complete blocked nose,” the Romanian number one explained.
Halep explained that an operation was the only way to solve the problem and a “plastic surgery intervention” was also required.
The 30-year-old uploaded a photo of herself in hospital following the operation and assured her fans she would be back in action soon.

However, supporters of the former world number one will have to wait a little longer to see her return, as she has now chalked off the rest of her 2022 season.
“When I lost at the US Open, I realised that I’m completely exhausted mentally,” Halep wrote in her latest update. “Having problems with [my] breathing for many years already and becoming worse with time, I decided to follow the advice of my doctors and do the needed surgery.
“I could never do it earlier because I never found the necessary three months for recovery because tennis was always the first priority in my life. But I felt it’s the right time to do it and also to do something for myself as a person.”
Halep admitted while the operation “solved the functional part” of her breathing issues, the plastic surgery also helped her aesthetically, as she was never a fan of how her nose looked.
Will Simona Halep return to the court?
Halep may have made the decision to cut short her season in order to focus on recovery, but she is fully committed to returning to tennis next year.
“I don’t know how long the recovery will take, at the moment I am not thinking about anything but recovery. What is sure, is that this year I won’t be able to compete in any official tournaments.
“My 2022 season is over. 2022, you have been an interesting year full of everything! See you on court, 2023! I feel I still have a lot to do on a tennis court and I still have some goals.”

The world number nine paid tribute to her coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who she appointed back in April after his ten-year working relationship with Serena Williams came to an end.
Before working with Mouratoglou, Halep revealed she was close to calling time on her tennis career and didn’t believe she had the ability to break back into the world top ten.
“I thought, it’s time to stop because it’s emotionally unhealthy. Then I was lucky to discover Patrick’s academy, where I felt so much passion that it gave me back my passion for tennis.
“Thanks to Patrick, I slowly started to believe that I can still play a good level of tennis.”
Indeed, Halep rose from 27th in the WTA rankings to sixth after reaching the Wimbledon semi-final and winning the Canadian Open.
She has won two Grand Slam titles in her career. When she returns for the 2023 WTA Tour, can she add to this tally with her new found passion and confidence?
