Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante will not be short of takers if he decides to leave Stamford Bridge next summer, says journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Frenchman looks set to leave Graham Potter's side at the end of the season unless they offer him a new long-term contract, giving co-owner Todd Boehly a huge decision to make, according to O'Rourke.

What is the latest news involving Kante?

Kante's current deal expires next year, meaning he will be able to join another club on a free transfer ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Chelsea have reacted, though, by offering the 31-year-old a new contract.

According to The Athletic, the Blues verbally offered to renew his deal for two years in August. It is believed that the option of another 12 months was also included in the proposal.

The same outlet, however, has stated that Kante has since rejected Chelsea's offer, as he is not satisfied with the length of the contract.

What has O'Rourke said about Kante's Chelsea future?

O'Rourke says Chelsea now have a big decision to make. And if that decision results in Kante departing west London, the journalist thinks he will have plenty of suitors.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O'Rourke said: "Chelsea, like a lot of the big clubs, aren't that keen on giving players over the age of 30 long-term contracts, so there's a big decision to be made by Chelsea in regards to Kante's contract.

"And if he does turn it down and seeks a move away, I'm sure there'll be no shortage of takers for the Frenchman."

Should Chelsea offer Kante a new long-term contract?

No. All things considered, their first offer of two years and the option of another was quite generous on their part.

There is no denying what an incredible acquisition Kante has been for Chelsea. Since joining the Blues from Leicester City for £30m, the France international has gone on to help them win the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup.

However, Kante is now 31 and has become injury-prone. He is currently out with a thigh problem, while last season, he was only able to make 21 starts in the English top flight under former manager Thomas Tuchel.

Again, given that, Chelsea were kind to offer the former Leicester man a two-year contract that had the option of another 12 months. It will now be interesting to see if either party is willing to compromise.
