Former UFC fighter Mike Perry has called for a blockbuster bare-knuckle boxing showdown against Nate Diaz.
Last Saturday night at UFC 279, Nate Diaz rode off into the sunset and left the Ultimate Fighting Championship after submitting Tony Ferguson in the main event of the evening. His historic run with the promotion has been well-documented and while heâs suggested that he could return one day, many feel as if this is the final time weâll see him standing in the middle of the Octagon.
Unsurprisingly, speculation began almost immediately regarding his future and what kind of transition heâs going to make away from mixed martial arts. The popular opinion has always been that heâll enter the world of professional boxing but with Jake Paul currently occupied with Anderson Silva, it may be a while before we get the chance to see that match-up.
Diaz has also spoken several times about kickstarting âReal Fight, Inc.â but as of this writing, there have been no further details released on that matter.
One idea thatâs been floated around is the possibility of him testing the waters in bare-knuckle boxing, and for ex-UFC star Mike Perry, that sounds like a splendid idea.
âNow is my time to make noise. I have no excuses so Iâm calling out all the best fights the fans can be interested in. I want to make waves. Been fighting my whole life and I always will no matter what.â
His comments came after David Feldman, BKFC founder, promoted the idea of the two squaring off.
"I think that the fans would absolutely love to see â both have the same type of personality, both just guys that keep fighting â Nate Diaz vs. Mike Perry would be a fan's dream fight," Feldman said.
Perryâs pedigree
Mike Perry was never the most consistent fighter during his stay in the UFC, but he always knew how to get people excited.
âPlatinumâ had the potential to be so much more than what he actually was but every time he stepped into the cage, he gave it his all in the name of showing the fans a good time.
Now, heâs part of the BKFC family, where heâs already been able to put together a 2-0 record.
He first beat Julian Lane before taking out Bellator sensation Michael âVenomâ Page in a thoroughly entertaining crossover fight.
Heâs also had success in Triad Combat with a triumph over Michael Seals, cementing his status as one of the most enjoyable guys to watch outside of the UFC spectrum.
