Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante will likely be a target of Paris Saint-Germain in future transfer windows with the 31-year-old already being contacted by the Ligue 1 giants, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Kante has been a central figure to Chelsea’s success over the past six years but could find himself moving on to a new club.

What is the latest on Kante?

The 53-cap France international recently rejected Chelsea’s offer of a two-year deal with the option of a 12-month extension, according to The Athletic, with his current agreement set to expire next summer.

The report states that Kante wants a three-year guarantee at Stamford Bridge to go with the optional year, terms proposed during the final days of Roman Abramovich’s reign.

However, former manager Thomas Tuchel has previously said that Kante’s injury record will affect the length of the deal he is offered.

Tuchel was controversially sacked last week with Brighton & Hove Albion boss Graham Potter brought in to replace him.

Kante, however, is yet to play under his new manager and has not taken to the field since the 2-2 draw with Tottenham back in August.

The Times reported in the summer that PSG were continuing to monitor the player’s situation and held a long-standing interest in the former Leicester City ace.

What has Phillips said on Kante’s future?

Phillips understands that PSG will be looking to take advantage of the player’s current situation.

The journalist adds that there has already been recent contact made with Kante’s representatives and that more could arrive if the situation is left unresolved.

Phillips told GIVEMESPORT: “That link’s always there, with PSG. I think they will be keen on getting involved in the situation and certainly monitoring it. I wouldn't be surprised if there's already been contact because there has been recent contact with Kante’s agent.”

Would losing Kante be a blow?

Since signing for Chelsea in the summer of 2016, Kante has made over 260 appearances for the club, winning the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in the process.

But, now into his 30’s, there is no doubt that his impact on the pitch is becoming more and more limited with age. He missed 16 games with injury last season and has already been forced out of eight this term.

Currently earning £290,000 per week, the Chelsea board need to think very carefully over what sort of deal they offer Kante. Losing him would be a blow, but it could make financial sense.
