Manchester United 'would be transformed overnight' if Sir Jim Ratcliffe succeeds in completing a takeover at Old Trafford, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Malcolm Glazer took control of the Red Devils after striking a £790million deal in 2005, but Ratcliffe is looking to take the Premier League giants off the American family's hands.

What's the latest news involving Ratcliffe?

It was revealed by The Times last month that Ratcliffe wants to buy a stake in Manchester United and is keen to hold talks with the Glazers.

However, the report suggests that Ratcliffe – who boasts a personal fortune estimated at £6.33billion – would only look to get involved if he could negotiate a deal which has a view to taking full control of the club.

It appears that Ratcliffe has already made plans ahead of potentially completing a takeover as it is understood that he has sounded out the idea of appointing Paris Saint-Germain advisor Luis Campos as the Red Devils' new sporting director.

The Portuguese joined the reigning Ligue 1 champions in the summer, having previously held roles behind the scenes at Celta Vigo, Galatasaray, Lille, Monaco and Real Madrid.

But Ratcliffe is facing competition from Chelsea as the west Londoners have reportedly offered Campos a contract worth just shy of £7million-per-year.

What has Dean Jones said about Ratcliffe?

Jones is unaware of whether Ratcliffe is edging towards completing a takeover which would see the Glazer family walk away from Manchester United.

However, the journalist believes the Red Devils would benefit from the 69-year-old moving into the Old Trafford helm.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I'll be honest, I don't know exactly how soon this is going to happen.

"But what I would say is that, if it did happen and if there was this takeover, the feel and the aura of Manchester United would be transformed overnight."

How have Manchester United performed so far this season?

It was a summer of transition for Manchester United as Erik ten Hag left the Ajax dugout to take over as the Red Devils' new boss.

The Dutchman was allowed to spend more than £200million on reinforcements and the club appear to be heading in the right direction on the pitch.

Although Manchester United made a slow start to the season, thanks to defeats at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, they have gone into the international break having claimed four consecutive Premier League wins.

Last time out, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo got their names on the scoresheet as ten Hag's charges overcame Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League group stage.
