Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov were locked in an intense rivalry in the UFC, which ultimately resulted in the pair going toe-to-toe in the Octagon.

It was the Russian Eagle who came out on top, with him retiring last year with a perfect record for the UFC in the cage, with McGregor now appearing to be on the decline.

He hasn’t fought for over a year and has lost three fights from his last four and despite being fully fit again, he doesn’t appear to be in a rush to return.

Conor McGregor vs Khabib

The Russian was victorious in their one and only fight in the Octagon, forcing the Irishman to submit in the fourth round at UFC 229 with a dominant victory in the title fight.

Both fighters spent the build-up really tearing into each other with their camps getting involved, but the fight didn’t end things.

After he secured the win, Khabib was straight over the Octagon and started brawling with McGregor’s team, punching his coach Dillon Danis.

Khabib’s team scaled the Octagon to attack McGregor who did his best to fend them off, the scenes were truly ugly after a huge event.

Conor McGregor and Khabib’s early relationship

Both share a relationship that at the best of times you’d say was frosty beyond belief, although it wasn’t always that way between the two.

After making his debut in 2012, Khabib was an up and coming fighter, looking up to the likes of McGregor who was making a huge name for himself.

Fans have unearthed a Twitter thread from back in 2014 with the pair exchanging pleasantries on the app.

Khabib started off by saying how much he admired McGregor’s shirt, saying he needed it. Notorious replied with ‘my man Khabib!!!’ which showed the two clearly didn’t despise each other once over.

The Russian then stated: “Hey Conor, I’m in Vegas when you come let me know, I want you gave me this shirt.”

Clearly desperate for the shirt, Khabib wanted the pair to meet and McGregor was sure to make it happen. He responded to the tweet and said: “Let’s do it brother!! I fly out to Vegas tomorrow!! Hit me up and we can train.”

Now who would have thought that, the best of enemies deciding to train together and actually appeared to like each other. I wonder how that one would have played out in an alternate universe!
