Erling Haaland was recently crowned the Premier League Player of the Month.

Does that come as much of a surprise? Absolutely not because the deadly Manchester City striker has been quite literally record-breakingly good so far this campaign.

England's top-flight was supposed to be a reality check for the youngster with many of his critics attributing the sheer number of goals he scored to the 'farmers league' in which he scored them, but alas, that theory has aged like souring milk under the hot sun.

Here we are, six games and 10 goals later and all we know for sure is that Haaland is in the form of his life.

But which other players deserve credit for starting the latest Premier League campaign with a bang?

We've ranked the 10 most in-form players of the 2022/23 season so far.

10. Pascal Gross

For the life of us, we can't quite work out why Gross has only placed 19th in WhoScored's Premier League player form rankings.

The German has been a huge asset for the Seagulls so far, as well as a fantasy football manager's dream thanks to his three goals and two assists to date.

9. Gabriel Martinelli

The standout performer for the Gunners this campaign alongside his compatriot Gabriel Jesus, the winger has been on fire in pretty much every game he's turned out in as of yet.

Three goals is a solid return, but doesn't quite do the form of Martinelli justice, whose impact on games has been far greater than that metric alone might suggest.

He's averaged an impressive 7.48 match rating across his opening six matches.

8. Luis Diaz

Another winger that's enjoyed a scintillating start to the 2022/23 Premier League, Diaz has outshone his underperforming Liverpool side and is consequently the only Red to make this list.

While his teammates have been lackadaisical and complacent, the Colombian has been purposeful and committed - and Jurgen Klopp's team would be in an even worse position without his vitally important three goals.

7. Harry Kane

Remember Kane's horrendously bad start to the last Premier League season after his potential switch to City fell through?

Yeah, well, that's not happened this time, not even nearly. The England captain has been on top form for his club and has racked up five goals already.

Of course, Haaland's 10 strikes makes that figure look meagre in comparison but in reality, Kane is still averaging near enough a goal every game and his head is certainly right where it needs to be in the current moment.

6. Allan Saint-Maximin

Is it fair to label the Frenchman the Premier League's most exciting player? We think so.

There's certainly no stopping the devastating winger when he's in full flow and if he can just maintain some steady form, then Newcastle might have one of Europe's best players on their hands.

His performance against Pep Guardiola's City side in particular was a joy to behold and even had the Spaniard lauding him as a "really dangerous" asset in his post-match press conference.

And with one goal and two assists from his opening four matches, there seems to be mounting evidence that he's becoming a more prolific player for the Magpies.

5. Ivan Toney

The Brentford man has kicked off the new Premier League season in style and after scoring a hat-trick against Leeds the other weekend, has now recorded five goals and two assists from his opening six games.

His average WhoScored match rating of 7.76 isn’t too shabby, either.

4. Gabriel Jesus

Jesus has wasted no time in getting amongst it under Mikel Arteta and has been the form player for the Gunners so far this season.

Three goals and three assists mark an impressive return from the Brazilian, but he’s contributed so much more than that through his intelligence and dogged work rate on the pitch.

What a signing for the London club.

3. Kevin De Bruyne

You just knew when Haaland pulled up to the Etihad that he was going to have a field day with the brilliant De Bruyne pulling the strings behind him.

The Belgian is rightly considered one of the finest players to ever grace the English top-flight and this season he's been proving once again that he's everything he's cracked up to be and more.

Four assists and counting for Guardiola's star maestro.

2. Aleksandar Mitrovic

Mitrovic is proving the real deal. That's right, he might have flopped a couple of seasons ago, but he's returned with vengeance and a steely determination to right the wrongs of prior years.

He began by single-handedly tearing Liverpool to shreds on the opening day of the season, scoring two in the process. Whilst he’s also notched another four times across his remaining four appearances.

1. Erling Haaland

But you already knew who was going to be at number one. The seemingly unstoppable goalscoring machine that will surpass the 100-goal mark for the calendar year if he continues scoring at his current rate of knots.

We just wonder how many Player of the Month awards he could go on to sweep up over the coming season.
