Manchester United attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes has ‘started to rediscover some of this magic’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 28-year-old has put in some promising performances during the opening weeks of Erik ten Hag’s tenure after struggling for form throughout the entire 2021/22 campaign.

What is the latest news involving Fernandes?

United signing Fernandes back in January 2020 from Sporting CP in a deal that could rise to £68 million if all of the potential add-ons are triggered.

The Portugal international hit the ground running at Old Trafford registering 12 goals and eight assists in 22 appearances across all competitions during his first six months with the club.

Fernandes then went from strength to strength in 2020/21, finding the back of the net on 28 occasions in 58 outings, setting up a further 17 strikes for his teammates.

However, the creative talent was unable to replicate that level of output last term despite still putting up respectable numbers by contributing towards 24 goals in 46 games.

And Fernandes has shown glimpses that he is getting back to his best in recent weeks by scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Southampton and providing an assist against Arsenal.

What has Jones said about Fernandes?

Jones believes that United ‘need’ Fernandes to get ‘back to his best’ given how instrumental he can be when at the top of his game for the 20-time English champions.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “I think we can all see that Bruno was off form for a while and that he has started to rediscover some of his magic.

“And United need him back to his best, so it's just another factor that Ten Hag has to consider.”

When will Fernandes be back in action?

Fernandes captained United to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Sheriff in the Europa League group stages on Thursday but had the weekend off after their clash with Leeds was postponed.

Due to the imminent international break, the 5 foot 10 ace will not pull on the famous red shirt until October 2 when Ten Hag’s charges take on local rivals Manchester City.

It’s set to be the first Manchester derby of the season and the first one of Ten Hag’s reign, adding extra excitement to an already intriguing encounter.

Fernandes will surely be hoping to continue his upturn in fortunes at the Etihad Stadium where United could make it five Premier League victories in a row.
