Triple H is an all-time WWE great, having held multiple World Championships and main evented several WrestleManias.

Despite now having retired from wrestling, Triple H still has a massive influence over the WWE product, being appointed as the Head of Creative in the wake of Vince McMahon's retirement in July.

In spite of all of that, there's a fair bit that fans probably still need to know about 'The Game', so GiveMeSport takes you through ten things you didn't know about Triple H...

He wrestled in WCW under a terrible ring name

Prior to joining WWE and going onto become Triple H, Paul Levesque wrestled for WCW under the ring name Terra Ryzing. The cringe-inducing name did little to help him get over as a star in his early years.

Triple H's original WWE name

Upon joining WWE, J.J. Dillion suggested the ring name Reginald DuPont Helmsley as part of his original “Connecticut Blueblood” gimmick.

Levesque asked for a name that he could play with the initials, and so Hunter Hearst Helmsley was born and the rest is history.

Triple H lost in 100 seconds in his first WrestleMania match

At WrestleMania 12 in 1996, Hunter lost in just 100 seconds to the returning Ultimate Warrior. He was utterly buried by the notoriously difficult superstar, who no sold The Pedigree before pinning him in rapid fashion.

'The Game' took the heat for the Curtain Call

The infamous “Curtain Call” in 1996, where Shawn Michaels, Triple H and the WCW-bound Kevin Nash and Scott Hall broke character to embrace one another was a major incident.

With Michaels the WWE Champion, Triple H took the heat and was replaced as the King of the Ring winner that year by Stone Cold Steve Austin.

He appeared on Saturday Night Live in 2000

Two weeks prior to WrestleMania 16, The Rock hosted SNL for the first time. His opening monologue featured appearances from his Mania opponents The Big Show, Mick Foley and WWE Champion Triple H. The show did season-record numbers, showing the popularity of WWE at the time.

He was the first heel to win the main event of WrestleMania

At the same WrestleMania, The Game became the first bad guy to close out “The Showcase of the Immortals” standing tall, having retained his WWE title in a fatal 4-way. Previously, the fans were always sent home happy with a babyface win.

In 2001, The Game appeared on the famous British quiz show alongside numerous other WWE superstars including Kurt Angle, Lita, Trish Stratus and his future-wife Stephanie McMahon. He and Stephanie were the final two, with Triple H emerging victorious.

He wanted John Cena fired in 2002

After a less than impressive start as a white meat babyface, there were backstage voices calling for a young John Cena to be sent packing. Triple H was one of these voices. Of course, Cena proved them all wrong, even defeating The Game at WrestleMania 22.

He was the first-ever WWE World Heavyweight Champion

In 2002, with Brock Lesnar becoming exclusive to Smackdown, Raw needed a Champion. General Manager Eric Bischoff crowed Triple H, who was the previous no.1 contender to Lesnar, the Big Gold Belt without even a match taking place. It did not go down well with fans.

He is a fan of West Ham United

Triple H declared himself an Iron in 2015 when he was in London for an NXT UK Takeover event. He claimed West Ham were the team and fanbase that came closest to representing the passion and loyalty of the WWE fanbase. The Game’s forever blowing bubbles?
