Tom Brady: Throwback to the bizarre call from his winning TD v Saints in 2013

Tom Brady v Saints

Tom Brady this Sunday takes on the New Orleans Saints, a team that has given him some trouble whilst he’s been with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but with the New England Patriots it’s a different story.

And it gives us a great chance to recall one of the great moments of the past when Tom Brady faced off against the New Orleans Saints.

Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are getting set to take on the Saints this weekend, with both sides looking to go 2-0 and hopefully get something of an edge on the other when it comes to the standings in the NFC South.

Brady’s supporting cast for the game might not exactly be up to scratch this Sunday, as the team have been dealing with some very bad luck when it comes to injuries this week, this is to go on top of the injuries that they picked up in preseason.

But whilst they might need Lady Luck to get the players ready for gameday, they might need a little bit more luck when it comes to gameday, because whilst Brady has been in Tampa, they are 0-4 against them in the regular season.

Now the Buccaneers did manage to get some revenge on the matter by beating them on their own turf in the 2020 playoffs on their way to winning the Super Bowl, but it is still something of a concerning record, especially when division standings are on the line and could have an impact on both teams seasons when we get to the playoffs in January.

Which college did Tom Brady attend?

But life against the Saints hasn’t always been disastrous for Brady, during his days with the New England Patriots he was able to go 4-1 against them, including one very special game back in 2013 when Brady took on Drew Brees and the Saints up in Foxborough, which gave birth to one of the great pieces of commentary of all time.

Tom Brady blows the Saints away

The game was a back and forth affair, with the Patriots racing out to a 17-7 lead at half-time, only for the Saints to come back and take a 27-23 lead late in the game and Brady threw what could have been a game-sealing interception with just 2:16 remaining, but they got the ball back with 1:13 remaining and no timeouts.

Now anyone who knows Brady knows that he doesn’t need a lot of time to get the ball from one end of the field to the other, and he did exactly that as he threw a pass to Kenbrell Thompkins with 0:07 left on the clock, but it wasn’t the play that has been ingrained in the memory, it’s the commentary from former Patriot man Scott Zolak on 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston.

If you need that translated, thankfully awfulannouncing.com were able to transcribe it:

“Brady’s back! That’s your quarterback. Who left the building?! Unicorns! Show Ponies! Where’s The Beef?! Boy, when you thought you’d seen it all, when it’s total despair. Fourteen years in the league. This situation after [the] Situation[t] he’s been through. And to elevate a rookie.”

Pretty much the definition of what you’d call a biased, ‘home team’ commentary, but when it’s as funny as that, you can’t really get too angry at it.
