Nyck de Vries has reportedly agreed a deal with Helmut Marko that will see him race for AlphaTauri next season alongside Yuki Tsunoda.

According to a report from Auto Hebdo, the two men used a meeting in Graz to reach the agreement that will see the Dutchman head to the Faenza-based team and replace the likely outgoing Pierre Gasly, who is being linked heavily with a move to Alpine.

As things stand, Gasly is actually the only one with a contract at AlphaTauri for 2023 but it is believed that it shouldn't be too difficult to get him out of that deal, whilst Tsunoda, though not yet signed on for next season, does appear on course to earn a contract for at least one more year.

It could well be De Vries that is his partner for 2023, too, with this particular section of the driver market reportedly getting a little clearer in recent days.

IndyCar star Colton Herta had been tipped to join AlphaTauri but issues over not having enough points to earn the required super license to join F1 seem to have scuppered that for the time being.

AlphaTauri have apparently looked to act quickly to turn to De Vries, then, with the Dutchman also being linked with a move to Williams in recent weeks.

Indeed, he did his chances of earning a '23 drive no harm at all at the Italian Grand Prix last time out with him standing in for Alex Albon at Williams and earning two championship points.

De Vries on the verge of F1 opportunity at last

Patience is a virtue and De Vries has certainly demonstrated that with him having to bide his time to make his way onto the F1 grid when so many of his comtemporaries from the junior ranks have already established themselves.

Instead, he's been competing in the likes of Formula E, with him winning the title in 2021, whilst he also won Formula 2 earlier on in his career.

He is a driver that showed his ability and class at Monza last time out for Williams, and AlphaTauri will be hoping he can demonstrate more of that if and when this deal for him to join them is completed.
