Kevin De Bruyne was at his brilliant best once again to help Manchester City defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 away from home.

The Premier League champions were simply too hot to handle in Saturday's early kick-off, with De Bruyne contributing two assists.

De Bruyne's first of the day was for Jack Grealish in the very first minute of play, the Belgian firing in one of his trademark low crosses to be gobbled up by his teammate.

The second came after the half-time interval and it was very similar to the first. De Bruyne teed up Phil Foden with a perfect near post cross to make it 3-0 after some sumptuous City build-up play involving Erling Haaland.

Yeah, it was another impressive showing from Pep Guardiola's well-oiled machine.

And De Bruyne's two assists mean he has now recorded 92 of them in Premier League action, the same number as Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard achieved in the entirety of his career.

What is more, De Bruyne has reached the sizeable tally in 287 fewer appearances, which is quite frankly ridiculous.

De Bruyne is, of course, playing in a far better team than Gerrard ever did at Liverpool, but the former Chelsea man's numbers are still astounding.

He's currently averaging close to an assist per outing in the English top-flight and with Haaland now leading the line at City, his numbers will probably further improve in the coming years.

Will De Bruyne eventually finish as the Premier League's greatest in terms of assists? Well, if he remains fully fit for the next three to four years, that outcome is more than likely.

Let's take a look at the division's all-time leading assistsers...

It's only a matter of time before De Bruyne becomes the fifth member of the 100 club and given he's already recorded six assists in the Premier League so far this season, he'll probably secure membership way before the end of 2022/23.

The Belgian still trails Manchester United icon Giggs by 50 assists, though, which is quite a significant margin.

But as we said earlier, if De Bruyne remains fit and focused, there's no reason why he can't claim the record outright.
