Vinicius Junior and Real Madrid have both released statements after the player was subjected to racial abuse over his goal celebrations.
Pedro Bravo, President of the Spanish Agents association, slammed the Brazilian while he was a guest on El Chiringuito and said the Los Blancos star was not respecting the opposition.
Bravo even compared Vinicius’ behaviour after scoring against Mallorca last Sunday to that of a monkey, which deservedly received some serious backlash on social media.
The Madrid-based agent has since apologised for his abhorrent words on Twitter, but Vinicius and Real Madrid have rightly come out and condemned his actions with statements of their own.
In a video posted online, Vinicius said: “They say that happiness bothers. The happiness of a victorious black Brazilian in Europe bothers much more.
“But my desire to win, my smile and the sparkle in my eyes are much bigger than that. You can’t even imagine it. I was a victim of a xenophobic and racist comment. But none of that started yesterday.”
“Weeks ago they began to criminalize my dances. Dances that are not mine. They belong to Ronaldinho, Neymar, [Lucas] Paqueta, [Antoine] Griezmann, Joao Felix, Matheus Cunha… they belong to Brazilian funk and samba artists, reggaeton singers, and black Americans. Those are dances to celebrate the cultural diversity of the world. Accept it, respect it. I’m not going to stop.”
Real Madrid’s statement
Real Madrid’s club statement read: “Real Madrid CF rejects all kinds of racist and xenophobic expressions and behaviors in the field of football, sport and life in general, such as the regrettable and unfortunate comments made in recent hours against our player Vinicius Junior.
“Real Madrid wants to show all its love and support for Vinicius Junior, a player who understands football as an attitude towards life based on joy, respect and sportsmanship.
“Football, which is the most global sport that exists, must be an example of values and coexistence. The club has instructed its legal services to take legal action against anyone who uses racist expressions towards our players.”
In his powerful statement, Vinicius vowed to keep on dancing to celebrate a goal and judging by footage from Real Madrid training ahead of the derby versus Atletico on Sunday, he’s staying true to his word.
A short clip uploaded to Twitter appears to show the Brazilian superstar practicing his dance moves during a training drill.

Pele & Neymar defend Vinicius on social media
Pele, Brazil’s record goalscorer, wrote: “Football is joy. It’s a dance. It’s a real party. Although racism still exists, we will not allow that to stop us from continuing to smile. And we will continue to fight racism this way: fighting for our right to be happy.
Neymar also sent a message to his international colleague, one which Vinicius responded to with an image of the pair celebrating a goal together with Brazil.
