Dani Carvajal ‘sending Antoine Griezmann to sleep’ during Atletico 1-2 Real Madrid goes viral

A clip of Dani Carvajal leaving Antoine Griezmann on the ground with a beautiful piece of skill during Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Atletico has gone viral.

Real Madrid sealed all three points thanks to first-half goals from Rodrygo and Federico Valverde.

Rodrygo opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a wonderful finish from Aurelien Tchouameni’s excellent pass.

The in-form Valverde then doubled the visitors’ advantage at the Wanda Metropolitano with his third goal in as many games.

Mario Hermoso set up a grandstand finish thanks to a fortuitous 83rd-minute goal but Los Blancos held on to their advantage and remain top of the La Liga table, two points clear of rivals Barcelona.

Dani Carvajal’s skill on Antoine Griezmann

Judging by the reaction on social media, Real Madrid fans enjoyed seeing Carvajal ‘sending Griezmann to sleep’ as much as the victory itself.

Sensing that Griezmann was about to fly in to the tackle, Carvajal lifted the ball over the Atletico forward with the most delicate of touches.

Isn’t that a superb photo?

Let’s check out some more reaction to the viral clip:

What did Carlo Ancelotti say after Atletico 1-2 Real Madrid?

Speaking after his side’s victory, Carlo Ancelotti was quoted by Real Madrid’s website as saying:  “We’ve got a very competitive squad and we’ve done it without [Karim] Benzema, our most important player. We can improve on some things, but the fact is that I can’t ask any more from this team. We’ve won every game and are really pleased. I’m proud to be coaching these players.

“We managed to play out from the back very well in the first half and both goals involved [Thibaut] Courtois playing out. We were comfortable on the ball and in the second half we lost the focus of trying to cause them problems. We had the game under control, but we had to dig in at the end because Atlético’s goal created problems for us. Ideally you want to score lots of goals and not concede, but there’s no such thing as perfection”.

And on his team’s defensive display, Ancelotti added: “We defended with a low block and we’re used to that. We clearly removed the danger of the attacking players up front like Joao Félix and Griezmann. If [Diego] Simeone says that we defended well in the low block then I’d like to thank him because I think that’s a compliment. I said hello to Simeone prior to the game. He’s fine like that and he’s used to it.”
