Leeds United will offer winger Jack Harrison a ‘new contract in the next two months or so’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road over the summer but ended up staying put and has now entered the final two years of his existing deal.

What is the latest news involving Harrison?

Back in May, The Telegraph first reported that Newcastle United were ‘interested’ in signing Harrison but feared Leeds’ Premier League survival on the final day of the season would make any potential transfer difficult.

The Athletic then supported up those claims, stating that both the Magpies and Tottenham Hotspur were admirers of the former England Under-21 international.

And French outlet Footmercato went on to state that Newcastle saw a £33.5 million bid rejected by Leeds for Harrison’s services as they were demanding a £40m fee to sanction his sale.

Eddie Howe’s charges were unwilling to match the west Yorkshire outfit’s demands, though, and brought in Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad instead.

90min have since reported that Leeds are hoping to agree a contract extension with Harrison in what remains of 2022, and getting the attacker to commit his future to the club is now a priority for them.

What has Jones said about Harrison?

Leeds lost two key players in Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips in the previous transfer window and appeared determined to keep hold of their other prized assets.

And Jones has informed GiveMeSport that the Whites are certain to offer Harrison fresh terms in the near future.

He said: “When Newcastle were linked with him, I was constantly told it would not happen as he was too highly rated, and now I’m being told that we should definitely expect a new contract in the next two months or so.”

How has Harrison started the season?

Harrison has started the season in impressive fashion under the tutelage of manager Jesse Marsch, registering one goal and three assists in six Premier League appearances.

As per WhoScored, the creative talent has also averaged three key passes, 2.3 dribbles, and 1.7 crosses per top-flight fixture, placing him in the top two for each metric when compared to his teammates.

Tying Harrison down to a new contract could be seen as a real statement of intent from the Leeds hierarchy, therefore, given his importance to the side.

It remains to be seen if Harrison is willing to put pen to paper on fresh terms or if Newcastle and co. will be tempted to revive their interest in him.
