Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper 'has a lot of credit in the bank' at the City Ground and is not in danger of being sacked, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Cooper is just a matter of days away from celebrating a year in charge of the East Midlands outfit, having been named as Chris Hughton's successor, but he has overseen an underwhelming start to the season.

What's the latest news involving Cooper and Nottingham Forest?

Cooper wrote his name into the Forest history books months after his appointment as he led the club into the Premier League for the first time in 23 years thanks to overcoming Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final last term.

The 42-year-old was then trusted to overhaul his squad during the summer transfer window and spent close to £150million on securing reinforcements.

Morgan Gibbs-White became the most expensive acquisition in Forest's history when he made the move, which could set his current employers back up to £42.5million, from Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.

However, the Reds have only recorded two victories since the season got underway, with those coming against West Ham United and League Two side Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second round.

Forest have gone into the international break sitting second from bottom in the Premier League standings, having suffered five defeats in seven fixtures.

What has Dean Jones said about Cooper?

Jones believes Cooper's job is safe for now because winning promotion from the Championship will have bought him more time.

The journalist is not expecting Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis to sack the Welshman yet despite the club's struggles since the season began.

When asked whether Cooper could lose his job at the City Ground, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "No, I don’t think so.

"Cooper has a lot of credit in the bank and they know this squad revamp was not going to guarantee fast results."

Should Cooper be given more time at the City Ground?

Although Cooper has entered the final two years of his Forest contract, he would be in line for a healthy compensation package if Marinakis were to show him the door.

The former Swansea City chief insisted his side are 'progressing' after their 3-2 defeat to Fulham on Friday and called for unity.

Cooper has led Forest to 29 wins from his 53 matches at the helm, meaning he boasts a points-per-game ratio of 1.87, so there is every chance that he will be able to turn their fortunes around over the course of the season.
