John Cena: WWE legend's film schedule could hint at WrestleMania 39 plans

John Cena is one of WWE's biggest ever stars

John Cena’s film schedule may hint at WWE’s plans for an appearance for the 45-year-old at WrestleMania 39.

Cena hasn’t wrestled for WWE since August 2021, but due to a gap in his filming schedule, that could be changing over the coming months.

There have long been rumours that WWE is planning for a showdown between Cena and Austin Theory at WWE’s biggest show of the year in April 2023.

John Cena’s filming schedule

James Gunn has provided an update on the filming for season two of Peacemaker, which stars John Cena.

Gunn explained, taking to Twitter as you can see below, to wish co-star Danielle Brooks a happy birthday, confirming that filming for the second season will commence over the next few months.

The showrunner later explained that filming wouldn’t start until after Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 hits theatres, via WrestleTalk.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3, which is also directed by James Gunn, is due to be released in May 2023, giving fans a good indication of Cena’s filming schedule for Spring 2023.

Latest news on John Cena’s WWE return

These updates will also have hinted that Cena, unless he has something else planned for around that time, will not be busy filming by the time WrestleMania 39 rolls around.

WrestleMania 39 is due to take place in Los Angeles on April 1 and 2, meaning that filming for Peacemaker wouldn’t prevent Cena from appearing at the show.

Fans, again as covered by WrestleTalk, have subsequently begun to speculate that the multi-time WWE Champion could now appear at the major Premium Live Event in April 2023.

If he does appear at the show, the rumour is that Cena will go one-on-one with Austin Theory, with the pair teasing a potential feud in interviews over the last few months, which you can read more about by clicking here.

As noted, Cena last wrestled on WWE TV at SummerSlam in August 2021, losing in a Universal Championship main event to Roman Reigns.

Cena would appear on WWE TV the following month, before taking just shy of a year away from the promotion to focus on his acting career.

John was on the June 27 episode of Monday Night Raw this year, with WWE bringing the wrestling legend back to celebrate his illustrious 20-year career.

It’s worth noting that this is merely speculation as of right now, and there have been no concrete reports which indicate that Cena is 100% locked in for WrestleMania 39.
