UFC star Paulo Costa has taken a shot at Khamzat Chimaev following their altercation during UFC 279 fight week.

Now that the dust has settled on UFC 279, it’s safe to say that it was probably one of the most turbulent weeks in recent memory for the promotion. From scraps backstage to cancelled press conferences to a whole host of fighters missing weight, we can’t imagine Dana White is going to look back too fondly on what went down in Las Vegas.

One of the biggest casualties came in the form of Khamzat Chimaev who, in many ways, did his reputation a lot of harm outside of his actual Octagon performance.

Prior to submitting Kevin Holland in the co-main event, ‘Borz’ missed weight by 7.5 pounds and was therefore removed from his scheduled main event against Nate Diaz.

That came after he was part of a scuffle backstage that led to the press conference being called off, and even before that, he tracked down Paulo Costa at the UFC Performance Institute and teased an impromptu brawl between their two teams.

It never quite got that far but ever since then, the two have been going back and forth on social media with the intention of potentially setting up a fight down the road.

During an appearance on The MMA Hour, Costa made his own feelings about Chimaev perfectly clear.

“Chimaev, because he’s on [a] high,” Costa said. “I stole some of his high. I stole his sleep, I stole his cap, I stole his main event fight. I stole everything.”

“Chiamaev, you need to do something, motherf*****,” he said. “I stole everything that you had. Your hat, I stole your night’s sleep, I stole your weigh-in. You are disturbed, so crazy. ‘I cannot do this, I will die.’ So I think I need to fight that guy.”

“For sure, [he missed weight because of me],” Costa said. “Because he became so angry, so stressed, and he almost – he gave up. He gave up. He missed the weight for almost eight pounds, almost nine.

“He gave up, for sure. I stole everything from him. Hype, soul, night of sleep, main event, his hat – do something.”

Costa went on to suggest that he would fight Chimaev, but only at middleweight.

Could it happen?

After Chimaev missed the welterweight limit by such a wide amount, Dana White confirmed that he’d prefer to see the Chechen sensation move up in weight to 185.

With Costa not really being near the title picture right now, we’d say a collision with Khamzat is definitely feasible.
