Over the years, ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor has had his fair share of beef with several athletes. No matter what sport they are involved with, the Irishman will have a go at them if he fancies it.

In 2016, combat sports fans witnessed a beef they never thought they would see with the UFC superstar and WWE legend Chris Jericho going at it on Twitter.

Both men have enjoyed glittering careers across their respective sports over the years. To see them engage in a Twitter spat, however, came as a huge surprise for the die-hard sports fans.

Conor McGregor & Chris Jericho's careers

McGregor has enjoyed success at featherweight, lightweight and welterweight in his career. He even became the first ever simultaneous two-division champion back in 2016. The Irishman even went head to head with Floyd Mayweather in the boxing ring back in 2017.

Jericho, meanwhile, has also enjoyed many moments in his career. The American has been a real star in the industry and is one of the most well-known names and has appeared in several big PPV outings at events such as WrestleMania and SummerSlam.

He is also a six-time world champion within the WWF/WWE franchise.

However, in a Twitter spat back in 2016, Jericho had a pop at McGregor after the Irishman had something controversial to say about his beloved industry.

The Notorious One said: “I didn’t mean no disrespect to the @wwe fans. What I meant to say was that I’d slap the head off your entire roster. And twice on Sunday’s.”

Jericho didn’t take a liking to this and decided to have a dig back at the Irishman.

“Sorry pal no disrespect to you, but my fights are legit, unlike the fixed fights u have in @UFC. I’ll embarrass u.”

UFC fake and WWE not?

Many fans went to question whether or not Jericho’s reply made any sense when he claimed that the WWE is legit and the UFC is fixed.

It's obviously very well known that WWE is in fact scripted and, well, UFC is not.

With that being said, though, it was still quite the dig from the WWE Superstar.

McGregor has always been known for his trash-talking ability, however, just like the Irish star, the WWE wrestlers are also known for their ability to talk trash on the mic.
