Seth Rollins will take on Matt Riddle in a Fight Pit match at WWE Extreme Rules next month.

On Monday Night Raw last night, it was announced that the bitter rivals will be competing in the first-ever Fight Pitch match on the main roster.

The match will take place at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view, which emanated from the Wells Fargo arena in Philadelphia on October 8.

The latest on Matt Riddle v Seth Rollins

Last night's episode of Raw kicked off with Rollins challenging Bobby Lashley for the United States Championship.

At the end of a fantastic back-and-forth match, Riddle came out to distract Seth, allowing Lashley to hit a Spear and pick up the win.

In a wild brawl backstage later on in the show, Riddle challenged Seth to a Fight Pit match, something that fans have been wanting to see on WWE's main roster since its creation in 2020.

What is a Fight Pitch match?

Fans of NXT will be familiar with the Fight Pit match, but for those who aren't, it's basically a modified version of a Steel Cage.

The ropes and turnbuckles from a usual match will be replaced by a Steel Cage, making for a rather impressive UFC-style visual.

The eye-catching structure also features scaffolding, allowing the participants to climb to the top and wrestle up high, only adding to the sense of danger.

The match can only be won via submission or TKO. Unlike a usual Steel Cage match, a Fight Pitch clash CANNOT be won via pinfall.

The first Fight Pit match took place on the May 27 episode of NXT, with Riddle being defeated by Timothy Thatcher.

The second Fight Pit match also featured Thatcher, with the now-former WWE Superstar defeating Tommaso Ciampa in January 2021.

Fight Pit arriving on the main roster is just the latest example of Triple H bringing things that worked in NXT to Raw and SmackDown now that he's running WWE Creative.

Just yesterday, 'The Game' announced in an interview with The Ringer that Survivor Series 2022 will feature two WarGames matches for the first time, which you can read more about by clicking here.

Rollins v Riddle in a Fight Pit is one of only two matches on the show so far, with Liv Morgan set to defend her SmackDown Women's Championship against Ronda Rousey in an Extreme Rules match.

You can watch Extreme Rules on October 8 live in the UK on the WWE Network and in the US on Peacock.
