Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka will now likely stay at the Emirates moving forward after an impressive start to the season, despite previously being linked with a transfer away, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The 29-year-old has made a brilliant start to the 2022-23 campaign and helped the Gunners into first place heading into the international break.

What is the latest news on Xhaka?

Serie A side Roma have reportedly attempted to sign the Switzerland international in the last two summer transfer windows but were unable to agree a fee on both occasions.

Xhaka went on to sign a new contract with the Gunners in the summer of 2021, after an impressive Euro 2020 campaign, that will see him stay in north London until 2024.

Mikel Arteta has selected him to start in each of the club’s seven Premier League games so far this season too, describing the former Borussia Monchengladbach star as ‘humble’ and ‘deserving’ of the love he is now receiving.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright also showered Xhaka with praise, admitting on Match of the Day that he has been one of the player’s biggest critics but described his start to the season as ‘fantastic’.

What has Brown said on the player?

Brown believes that Xhaka has been in an unstable situation over the last couple of years with his future always up in the air.

But the journalist now believes that the 6 foot 1 midfielder is at Arsenal to stay for the foreseeable future after becoming a central figure in their side.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “He’s been in a very interesting situation for the last few years because there's been a lot of speculation about his future.

“There have been a few clubs that have come in for him. Arsenal have entertained talks about selling Xhaka for a few windows now, despite the fact that Arteta has always said he's a key member of the squad, a leader, a big voice in the dressing room and someone that he doesn't want to lose.

“But all things being equal, if that continues, I think he's going to stay at Arsenal and I think he’ll have a big part to play in the next few months.”

How good has Xhaka been this season?

In seven Premier League appearances, the £100,000 per-week midfielder has claimed one goal and three assists, putting him below only Kevin De Bruyne and Bukayo Saka in the latter Premier League rankings.

He also boasts an impressive pass accuracy of 86% per cent and plays, on average, two key passes per 90 minutes in the top-flight.

If he can maintain that form for the rest of the season, Xhaka could well continue to feel like a new signing for Arteta.
