Triple H has talked to 'underrated' ex-WWE star over major return

Triple H is going to be aggressive in making changes to WWE TV

Triple H is said to have held talks with Maria Kanellis over a potential return to WWE.

Maria, along with her husband Mike, was one of the first people released by WWE in April 2020 as part of a cost-cutting measure brought on by COVID-19.

However, following the retirement of Vince McMahon in July, the door has seemingly opened for Maria to return to WWE for what would be her third run.

Is Maria Kanellis returning to WWE?

Maria Kanellis, pretty soon after leaving WWE in 2020, moved on to ROH to become a key figure, both on-screen and behind the scenes.

As well as her work as an active performer, Maria was involved with the booking of the women’s division, something she earned high praise for.

After ROH went onto hiatus in 2021, Maria signed a deal with IMPACT Wrestling, but that expires on October 8, meaning she will soon be free to sign for whoever she wants to.

Speaking to Grapsody on Fightful, Maria explained that she’s held talks with Triple H, WWE’s new Head of Creative, where the topic of her future was brought up.

Kanellis explained that she also spoke with the team behind WOW, as well as Tony Khan of AEW, so it seems like Triple H may face some competition in his battle to secure Maria’s signature, via WrestleTalk.

I’m on a per-appearance deal with them [IMPACT Wrestling] until October 8. It’s really hard looking ‘where do I go next?’ I talked to Tony Khan, I talked to Triple H, I talk to Scott all the time. Recently, I talked to WOW [Women of Wrestling]. It’s a very interesting time for me

During the same interview, Maria spoke about how her husband Mike still has “unfinished business” in WWE, hinting that the pair may end up there once their IMPACT deals expire.

My husband went to WWE and it was his ultimate dream. That’s all he talked about. He was a WWE person from the moment I met him. We got to WWE, and it was not the way he wanted it to go. I think, for him, there is still a part of him that thinks there is unfinished business.

Later on in the interview, Maria spoke about how she’s thought about managing Mike and Matt Taven, known as The Kingdom, at WrestleMania.

It’s worth noting that it hasn’t been reported that Maria is leaning towards signing with WWE, and this is just based off her own admission that she’s held talks with the company since Vince McMahon retired.

Maria is highly praised for her work in wrestling, mainly as a creative figure. She is so well thought of that in 2018, Paul Heyman called her the single most “underrated” creative mind in wrestling.
