Tottenham target James Maddison might be the missing piece of the puzzle for Antonio Conte, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Spurs were linked with the £110,000 per-week ace in the recent transfer window, along with other Premier League clubs, although Maddison ended up staying at the King Power Stadium.

What's the latest news involving Maddison?

According to reports, the north Londoners were 'seriously considering' a move for the 25-year-old in a bid to give Conte another option in the middle.

Unlike Tottenham, Newcastle were in direct negotiations with Leicester, although both of their bids were knocked back, the second being more than £40m.

That came just four months after the Foxes were considering cashing in on the former Norwich and Coventry star, who the Daily Mail valued at £50m.

Maddison registered 30 goal contributions last season, chipping in with a career-best 18 goals to help Leicester secure a top half finish and reach the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League.

Tottenham could have done with his quality and creativity this season but ended up failing to sign a No.10.

What did O'Rourke say about Maddison?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I think probably a piece that's missing in that Tottenham midfield is an attacking midfielder, they seem to have got defensive midfielders in there right now with [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg and [Rodrigo] Bentancur.

"So, maybe Maddison could fill the void there if they are looking to bring in somebody attacking, but I'm sure if he becomes available, it wouldn't just be Tottenham interested."

How has Maddison performed this season?

Despite Leicester making their worst ever start to a Premier League season, Maddison is still doing himself justice on a personal level.

In six top-flight appearances, he's scored three goals and chipped in with one assist, meaning he's had a hand in 40 per cent of his side's goals.

One of those came in Leicester's 6-2 defeat at Tottenham last Saturday, where Antonio Conte's team saw first hand what Maddison is capable of, even though his evening ultimately ended in defeat.

Despite Spurs' flurry of late goals, Maddison, described as a 'shining light', was the fifth-best rated player, according to WhoScored, highlighting his creative side by making more key passes (4) and having more shots (7) than anyone else, although only one of those managed to beat Hugo Lloris.
