Chelsea have set their sights on signing Tottenham Hotspur marksman Harry Kane and the interest from Stamford Bridge does not come as a shock, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

Graham Potter, who was appointed as the Blues' head coach following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel earlier this month, will be given the opportunity to bolster his squad for the first time when the transfer window reopens in January.

What's the latest news involving Kane?

According to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Potter is an admirer of Kane and wants to negotiate terms which would see the striker make the move from Tottenham.

The report suggests the new Chelsea boss is prepared to offer Romelu Lukaku, who is currently on a season-long loan with Inter Milan, to the north Londoners in a player-plus-cash swap deal.

Kane has entered the final two years of his £200,000-per-week contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, leading to uncertainty over where his long-term future lies.

But Chelsea are not the only side looking to lure the 29-year-old, who is currently on international duty with England, away from his boyhood club.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenburg has revealed Bayern Munich are already in talks with Kane’s representatives over a potential transfer next summer.

What has Tom Barclay said about Kane?

Barclay believes a host of clubs will be queueing up for Kane's services as he approaches the end of his contract.

The journalist feels Chelsea will prioritise signing a new frontman despite luring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang away from Barcelona earlier this month.

Barclay told GIVEMESPORT: "You would think that the nearer it gets to the end of his contract, pretty much any club in the world - barring maybe someone like Manchester City just because they've got Erling Haaland now - would be interested.

"It doesn't surprise me with Chelsea. Obviously, they need a long-term number nine because of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's age, so that wouldn't surprise me."

Should Chelsea make signing Kane a priority?

Chelsea have gone into the international break having made a slow start to the campaign and sit eight points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal, but there is no doubt that Kane would add plenty of firepower.

He has found the back of the net 270 times during his senior club career, moved to within touching distance of Alan Shearer's record as the Premier League's all-time leading goalscorer and been described by Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness as 'superb'.

However, it may be difficult attempting to persuade Kane to join Chelsea from their bitter rivals as Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte has claimed the striker is happy with his current employers and he believes the club are heading in the right direction when it comes to persuading him to sign a new contract.
