Paige (now going by Saraya) made her AEW debut at Grand Slam last night, but it has been reported that WWE wanted her back beforehand.

Paige's contract with WWE expired this year, and she was allowed to walk out without being offered a new deal by the old regime.

However, hours before she made a shock appearance on AEW Dynamite last night, rumours of Paige returning to WWE began to circulate.

Latest news on Saraya (fka Paige)

Last night, Fightful Select reported that it was believed that the new WWE leadership team, which is being led by Stephanie McMahon, Nick Khan and Triple H, wanted to rehire Paige.

They believe WWE would also be interested in bringing her back considering the new regime.

It's unclear whether or not Triple H, as part of his mission to bring back several former WWE stars, even reached out to Paige, but it seems like the wrestling giant at least thought about asking her to return.

The same report also noted that AEW had reached out to Paige over the summer to speak about her potentially coming into the company.

Those conversations didn't go anywhere at the time, but something changed, as the former Divas Champion made an appearance on AEW Dynamite last night.

Will Saraya wrestle for AEW?

Saraya's debut for AEW, which you can watch in full by clicking here, saw her save Toni Storm and Athena from a beatdown at the hands of Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter and Serena Deeb.

Saraya's debut very much seemed to present her as a wrestler, as opposed to a manager or authority figure, which she had been during the latter portion of her WWE career.

Paige hasn't wrestled since the December 26 WWE Live Event in Madison Square Garden in 2017, a show where she suffered yet another neck issue.

As a result, Paige was immediately medically disqualified and told she wasn't able to wrestle again, officially retiring in April 2018 on the Raw after WrestleMania show.

As of right now, there's no word on if Saraya has now been cleared to wrestle, but what happened last night during her debut seems to suggest that she will be able to work in the ring again.

After the returns of Daniel Bryan and Edge from retirement, Paige spoke about how she was determined to wrestle again, and all signs point toward her having received her wish.
