Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is not currently in danger of losing his job right now, according to BirminghamLive journalist Ashley Preece.

Gerrard's position in the Villa Park dugout has been under scrutiny following a testing start to the season, but pressure on his shoulders has eased slightly after two positive results.

What's the latest news involving Gerrard?

Just like in January, Gerrard was once again backed by NSWE this summer, with the Villa boss spending more than £60m to continue revamping his squad.

Philippe Coutinho and Diego Carlos were the big-money arrivals from Barcelona and Sevilla, while Leandro Dendoncker came in from Midlands rivals Wolves.

But as of yet, none of their seven new recruits have been able to transform results on the pitch, with Villa labouring down in 15th after four defeats in their opening five Premier League games, which included damaging results against Bournemouth and West Ham.

Gerrard's side have turned their form around to some extent after drawing with Manchester City before beating Southampton 1-0 before the international break to move three points clear of the relegation zone.

Prior to those two results, Villa had been linked with an ambitious move for former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, but Preece doesn't think Gerrard's position is under threat.

What did Preece say about Aston Villa?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Villa is an attractive club for managers, they spend a lot of money in the transfer window.

"The owners are prepared to give managers cash to shape the squad, but I can't see [Gerrard getting sacked] at the moment. I think Gerrard's position is comfortable at present, off the back of the last two results."

What's next for Aston Villa?

From when they return after the international break, until the season pauses in mid-November for the World Cup, Villa have a great chance to put some points on the board.

In their next eight Premier League fixtures, they play just two of the traditional top-six, although even those are home games against Chelsea and Manchester United, sides who they've taken points off in recent years.

Beyond that, Villa come up against Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Brentford, Newcastle and Brighton, which are all extremely winnable games on paper, despite five of those six currently above Villa in the table.
