Roger Federer dominates game of table tennis all while wearing a tuxedo

Clips of Roger Federer playing table tennis at recent gala dinner have gone viral, and the tennis legend seems just as good with a table tennis bat as he does with the tennis racket.

At a recent gala dinner, ahead of the Laver Cup in London this weekend, Federer was spotted playing table tennis with Argentine tennis player Diego Schwartzman, and the clip has gone viral on social media.

On Federer’s own Twitter account, the Swiss uploaded a clip of him scoring an emphatic point against Schwartzman, captioning the clip: “Just a quick warmup before the gala”.

Roger Federer shows off his table-tennis skills

And with the record holding eight-time Wimbledon champion having recently announced his retirement from tennis, his impressive table tennis skills suggest that he could enjoy a career in the scaled down version of the sport.

The event at which Federer was playing table tennis was a gala dinner before the Laver Cup this weekend, in which Federer will play his last professional game, following his emotional statement of retirement last week.

The 41-year-old stated on social media that The Laver Cup would be his final ATP event and explained:

“As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear.”

Roger Federer’s final match to be with Rafael Nadal

Fittingly, Federer’s last game will feature him teaming up with long-time rival Rafael Nadal in a Doubles match for Team Europe against Team World’s Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock in London’s O2 Arena on Friday night.

Sitting in a press conference with Team Europe teammates Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray, Federer claimed that: “Sitting here, it feels good that I go first from the guys. It just feels right.”

However, for many fans, tennis will not ‘feel right’ for a while following Federer’s retirement from the sport, with the 20-time Grand Slam singles title winner having played a huge role in defining the modern game along with Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray.

With Federer’s retirement, an iconic era is coming to an end, not just in tennis but in sport as a whole.

However, it may mean that we get to see him donning a smart tuxedo showing off his impressive table tennis skills more often.
