Randy Orton was left seriously impressed by a match in AEW between former WWE stars Claudio Castagnoli and Dax Harwood.

On the September 9 episode of AEW Rampage, Claudio defeated his ROH World Championship against Dax of FTR.

Many feuds viewed the match as one of the best TV bouts of the month, and it seems like Randy Orton agreed.

Randy Orton's praise for Dax v Claudio

Speaking to MackMania, Dax revealed that Randy text him and Claudio after the match to tell him how great he thought it was. via Ringside News.

The former WWE Champion couldn't stop talking about how good the match between the former WWE stars was, telling them that their selling is "what's missing in wrestling", which is certainly high praise.

It might get him in trouble, but whatever. After my match with Claudio [Castagnoli], Randy Orton texts me and Claudio and could not stop talking about how great the match was, and selling and what’s missing in wrestling.

Randy is a notoriously hard person to impress, so for Dax and Claudio to both get texts from the former WWE Champion shows just how brilliant their match was.

As noted, the match was for Claudio's ROH World Championship, which he won from Jonathan Gresham at Death before Dishonor on July 23.

However, Claudio (formerly Cesaro) is no longer the ROH World Champion, having dropped his title to Chris Jericho this week on AEW's special 'Grand Slam' episode of Rampage.

Dax, on the other hand, is the reigning IWGP Tag Team Champion, AAA Tag Team Champion and ROH Tag Team Champion, belts he holds alongside long-time tag team partner Cash Wheeler.

WWE's plans for Randy Orton

Randy Orton cemented himself as arguably WWE's top babyface with his work towards the end of 2021 heading into 2022.

Randy has always been a fantastic heel, but it took until his 20th year in wrestling for the 42-year-old to really win over the fans as a top face.

However, Randy was taken off TV in May of this year due to a serious back injury, with it being feared that he'll be out of action until 2023.

At the time, Randy was the reigning Raw Tag Team Champion, and was set to feud with Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship heading into SummerSlam 2022.

As of right now, there's no word on when Randy is exactly supposed to return from his injury, but as noted, he's not expected to be back by the end of the year.
