Tyson Fury's proposed fight with Anthony Joshua for the WBC heavyweight title has been thrown into doubt after Manuel Charr emerged as a more likely option.

Late last month, Fury performed a dramatic retirement U-turn just five months after making the rather premature announcement following his victory over Dillian Whyte.

He had originally set his sights on a unification clash against Oleksandr Usyk which would see them attempt to crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

However, with Usyk temporarily unavailable as of right now, plans have been put in motion for Fury and Joshua to finally face one another later this year.

Shane Fury doubts Tyson Fury will fight Anthony Joshua in December

Manuel Charr has emerged as the frontrunner to face Tyson Fury

The Gypsy King had been close to agreeing a December clash against his fellow Brit, but Fury's brother Shane has admitted that his older sibling will "probably" end up fighting Charr instead, and fears it will "never happen" if they are unable to agree a deal in time.

"If I had to put my money on it I would say it’s not happening," he told Boxing Social.

"If I had to put my money on it I would say it’s not happening," he told BoxingSocial.

"I’d be happy if it did get made because I’d be very confident. We’re very confident in that [the win] but I’m not that confident it’s going to happen. It all boils down to if both men want it, and if both men don’t want it and one’s doing it for the wrong reasons, it’ll never happen.

"So, we’ll see. They need to jog on. Whoever’s holding it up or whatever’s holding it up, it needs either to be fixed or it needs to be forgotten about. If it doesn’t happen now, I don’t think it will ever happen, because the simple reason being Tyson won’t be giving Joshua the chance. He’s going to be probably fighting Manuel Charr – [who] I could have a good tussle with myself – and have an easy run out.

“Unless Joshua can happen, because Joshua’s a big name and he’s a good scalp – and he can easily tip Tyson over because it’s heavyweight boxing and he’s very good – but, if that doesn’t happen it’s going to be a run out for Tyson, and the worse opponent the better."

Who is Tyson Fury's potential opponent Manuel Charr?

Charr, who goes by the nickname 'Diamond Boy', is a Lebanese-born and German-based heavyweight.

He holds a professional record of 37-4, and has previously shared the ring with the likes of Mairis Briedis, Vitali Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin.

Charr, 37, recently beat Nikola Milacic to extend his winning streak to five fights in a row and made his case to fight Fury afterwards.

In a video posted to Instagram, he said: "Tyson Fury, take the fight. I'm ready to knock you out. Take my challenge. I'm ready for you, man. No excuses.

"I promise you on December 3, I will smash your pretty face you big dosser. I will focus on this green and gold belt coming home."
