Wolverhampton Wanderers may have ‘their eye’ on highly-rated Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, according to journalist Dean Jones.
Current boss Bruno Lage has endured a difficult start to the current campaign after ending last season with a string of disappointing results, increasing the scrutiny on his position.

Shropshire Star reporter Liam Keen has reported that there ‘is pressure’ building around Lage, but he expects the Wolves hierarchy to keep faith in him for a little while longer.
The Midlands outfit finished in 10th position in the Premier League standings last term in what was the 46-year-old tactician’s maiden campaign at the helm.
However, despite that solid enough showing, Wolves’ record in 2022 has been largely underwhelming, winning just nine of their 27 top-flight fixtures.
Lage’s charges are currently languishing in 17th position after picking up just six points from their opening seven league games and could be dragged into the relegation zone if they lose their next game against West Ham United.
And Wolves spending over the summer will surely also give Lage less leeway when it comes to results given that he was backed to the tune of around £120 million in the previous window.
What has Jones said about Wolves?
Wolves have a strong relationship with Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes, leading to several of his compatriot’s playing for them over the last few years.
And Mendes’ influence has also contributed to the club’s last two managers being from the Iberian nation, and Jones has stated that it ‘would not surprise’ him
In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “It would not surprise me if they had their eye on Ruben Amorim at Sporting.”
Would Amorim be a good appointment?
Amorim was appointed as Sporting’s chief in March 2020 following an impressive 13-game spell in charge of SC Braga where he won the Portuguese League Cup, and he’s gone from strength to strength ever since.
In his 115-match tenure at the Estádio José Alvalade, the 37-year-old has overseen 82 victories and 16 draws, averaging 2.28 points per game.
Amorim was also responsible for Sporting ending their 19-year wait for a top-flight title and has also claimed two Portuguese League Cups and one Portuguese Super Cup during his tenure.
If Wolves do decide to sack Lage over the coming weeks, then they could certainly do a lot worse than appoint Amorim as his successor at Molineux.
