Paige (now Saraya) debuted for AEW this week, mere months after leaving WWE at the expiration of her contract.

The former WWE Superstar hasn't wrestled since December 2017 due to injury, being forced to retire in April the following year.

Fans believed that Saraya, following her AEW debut, had finally been cleared to wrestle again, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Can Saraya (Paige) now wrestle?

Saraya came out on AEW Dynamite during this week's special Grand Slam show to save Athena and Toni Storm from an attack at the hands of Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter and Serena Deeb.

While she may not have got physical during her debut, with the ring clearing while she made her entrance, Saraya's debut very much pained her as a wrestler.

Speculation that she's now been cleared to wrestle again was fuelled further when Saraya was added to AEW's roster page, and given a win/loss record, again suggesting Tony Khan plans on having her wrestle.

However, a recent report from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer suggests that all may not be what it seems when it comes to Saraya's in-ring status.

Meltzer reports that, at least as of fairly recently, Saraya had not yet been cleared to return to the ring to wrestle again, via WrestleTalk.

We were told that she had not been cleared as of very recently, which would explain not touching anyone, but would like to be cleared.

So the report seems to suggest that Saraya would like to be cleared, which she has gone on the record to say numerous times, even dating back to her time with WWE.

However, it's worth noting that Meltzer is of the believe that even as of fairly recently, Saraya was not permitted to step back into the ring to get physical.

So it seems likely that Tony Khan signed the former Divas Champion for a non-wrestling role right now, but with the view of having her transition into the ring if/when she gets cleared to do so.

WWE wanted to re-sign Paige

Mere hours before her debut with AEW this week, Fightful Select reported that the new WWE leadership team was believed to have been interested in bringing Paige back into the company.

The 30-year-old's contract with WWE expired this year, and she has revealed that she wasn't offered another deal by the company, which was run by Vince McMahon at the time.

However, the belief amongst people that Fightful spoke to was that the new regime, led by Triple H, would have wanted to re-sign Paige had she not agreed to join AEW.
