Shakur Stevenson has been praised by Mike Tyson and Magic Johnson for showing his class against Robson Conceicao.

The pair faced each other last night in the main event of a Top Rank show live on Sky Sports, which took place at Newark's Prudential Center.

Stevenson may have his super-featherweight titles on the scales the day beforehand but that didn't stop Tyson and Johnson from singing his praises after such a masterful performance on Friday.

The former world champion certainly looked like he had a point to prove as he came out to a noisy reception in his home state of New Jersey.

Conceicao tried his best to fend off Stevenson for most of the fight but had no answer for his opponent's speed and accuracy.

The Olympic gold medallist caught his American rival with a counter right hand a few seconds into the first round, only to be knocked off balance by the 25-year-old minutes later.

And that really set the tone for the rest of the fight, with Stevenson deservedly getting the nod on all three of the judges' scorecards.

Two judges scored the bout 117-109 in favour of Stevenson, while the third had the Olympic silver medallist a 118-108 winner.

In a video uploaded to Twitter, Tyson was quick to praise Stevenson following his dominant victory over Conceicao.

The boxing legend, who was unable to attend in person for unknown reasons, tweeted: "Shakur Stevenson will win titles in the next weight division. He's unstoppable right now."

In the video, he said: "Shakur Stevenson is a first-class fighter and I don't think it's going to make any difference that he's given his titles up because of weight difference, he'll just go to the next division and win that title as well."

Boxing News - Magic Johnson calls Shakur Stevenson a 'role model'

Similarly, Johnson also tweeted Stevenson his congratulations after witnessing him put on such a masterclass in front of his home crowd.

He wrote on Twitter: "Just finished watching Shakur Stevenson beat Robson Conceicao by unanimous decision! Congratulations Shakur Stevenson!"

The ex-NBA All-Star was left suitably impressed after he found out that Stevenson had kindly offered tickets to children from schools in his local area so that they could attend the show in person.

"I was already a fan but now I’m an even bigger fan of Shakur Stevenson for inviting over 100 elementary school students to his boxing match today," he added.

While Johnson also called Stevenson "an inspiration" to young people in his local community.

In a follow-up post, he tweeted: "He's an inspiration and shows them that through education, hard work, and discipline they can achieve great things in their life like their role model Shakur."
