Floyd Mayweather is one of boxing's biggest ever stars, winner of 15 world championships across five weight divisions, and boasting an incredible unblemished record of 50-0.

Since knocking MMA star Conor McGregor out in a cross-sport bout in 2017, ‘Money’ has competed in several exhibition bouts, continuing the trend with a knockout victory over MMA star and Youtuber Mikuru Asakura.

Widely considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, and often labelled as ‘the best defensive boxer in history’, Mayweather was pressed with unlikely adversity in the moments preceding the blow that sent his opponent toward the canvas.

Under the glaring lights in the packed Saitama Super Arena in Japan, Asakura’s home country, the opponents gave the fans an entertaining spectacle, with an enjoyable first round bettered by a thrilling second, with Mayweather prevailing mere seconds before the bell.

Mayweather, now 45, showed exemplary technique and admirable fitness throughout, oft the aggressor and a clearcut class above the gallant efforts of Asakura.

Despite this, Asakura did indeed manage to sneak in a few combinations of his own, and appeared to stun Mayweather in the second round, before ultimately finding himself grounded.

Impressing with slick striking sequences and a tenacious attitude, Asakura can take solace from the fact he succeeded in even bothering Mayweather, something so many competitors have failed to do.

Mayweather’s defensive wall is so formidable that many opponents are left visibly frustrated mid-bout, it is as if a barricade has been erected and expertly repels and offensive strike that may come its way.

Regardless, Asakura found success, and possibly inadvertently served his own downfall after tagging Mayweather, who unleashed a spurt of aggression after an incensed reaction to the roar of the crowd, who thought they sensed blood and a potential seismic upset.

Speaking after the fight, Mayweather thanked Japan for its hospitality, saying: “I would like to thank the whole country of Japan, an incredible country.

A round of applause for this incredible competitor right here. Another unbelievable experience. I’m just happy to be here, thanks again.”

Closing the show with one final promise, Mayweather promised to return. “I’m happy we were able to give the fans excitement tonight. Thanks for having me, I’ll be back.”
